But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jörn Offendahl couldn't finish the play. Zafer Tavil showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Halit Fahri Özozan, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. The supporters of Gayrettepe JK booed when Pertevniyal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Asaf Tamkoç didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sefa Mengüalp got free with Zafer Tavil in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Jörn Offendahl had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gayrettepe JK's Aytunç Ünver played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Albano Depsch in the 47th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

In the 73rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Gayrettepe JK's goalkeeper Aytunç Ünver, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Gayrettepe JK's zone, Jörn Offendahl stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aytunç Ünver came out of the goal and Jörn Offendahl tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Enrico Iacovone succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-5 in the 79th playminute. Ömer Onuk kicked well hit freekick during the 91st minute of the match. Ömer Onuk hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. Pertevniyal's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
