The goalkeeper, Ramiz Akaltan, was totally fooled by Celtikci's Fehmi Pektay, who 9 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. The supporters of Celtikci booed when Kocaelispor was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kuddusî Zeyni didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Aytaç Demirer managed to get in a good position for a shot. Celtikci's supporters rose to their feet, but Aytaç Demirer was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ramiz Akaltan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 21 played minutes Kocaelispor got a freekick which was hit by Kuddusî Zeyni. Aytaç Demirer struck a weak shot in the 22nd minute. Ramiz Akaltan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Celtikci. Recep Seçkiner who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 24thth minute tested the skills of Ramiz Akaltan when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 25 minutes into the game, one of Kocaelispor:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Ramiz Akaltan had in the 27thth minute some difficulties stopping Fehmi Pektay's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. In the 29th minute, Gaffar Eraksan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ramiz Akaltan was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 30th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Fehmi Pektay. Burhan Işık hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. A collision led to Celtikci getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Burhan Işık hit a great ball. 43 minutes into the match, Kocaelispor's goal looked a bit too open when Aytaç Demirer came free, but Ramiz Akaltan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ramiz Akaltan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Aytaç Demirer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Güralp Ilgın was the one to do the kick off. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 59 minutes into the match, Celtikci's Aytaç Demirer sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ramiz Akaltan narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 62 played minutes Celtikci got a freekick which was hit by Cengiz İmamoğlu. Ramiz Akaltan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aytaç Demirer in the 65th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Kocaelispor's Kuddusî Zeyni got a free kick in the 72nd minute. After a defensive mix-up in Kocaelispor's zone, Aytaç Demirer stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ramiz Akaltan came out of the goal and Aytaç Demirer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Aytaç Demirer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ramiz Akaltan having to interfere. Celtikci's defense didn't have a chance, in the 81st minute, when Güralp Ilgın scored to the left of an out of position Abdurrezzak Tolgan, making the score, 2-2. 85 minutes into the match, Kocaelispor's goal looked a bit too open when Recep Seçkiner came free, but Ramiz Akaltan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Aytaç Demirer came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Celtikci fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Aytaç Demirer couldn't finish the play.
