Çetin Özpinar was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 35 minutes into the match. In a very dangerous position, a player in Bwşiktaş fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 35th minute. Penalty! The referee gave Özvatan a penalty, 38 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Duran Doğulu, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Bwşiktaş's Soner Perkel. 3-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bahattin Cevar in the 41st minute of play forced Bwşiktaş's goalkeeper Soner Perkel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Duran Doğulu made the kick off in the second half. Vural Zeyyat fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Suphi Demircan having to interfere. In the 54th minute Serhat Dilşad shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Suphi Demircan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Suphi Demircan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bwşiktaş.
