The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 15 minutes into the match, Andaç Koçaslan had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Aktuğ Sezgin. Fenerbahçe's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Andaç Koçaslan was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Abdi Saygın Titiz's late challenge caught a Fenerbahçe's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Abdi Saygın Titiz helped the player get up and apologised. Abdi Saygın Titiz hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. Galatasaray SK were furious when Aras Görkem Uygur was red carded, 19 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In the 19th minute, one of Galatasaray SK:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Galatasaray SK. Galatasaray SK:s Teoman Kurboga showed great skill when he stopped Halit Hasanbeyli:s penalty. Mustafa Kemal Hozatlı fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aktuğ Sezgin having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Fenerbahçe's Şahin Korkutalp got a free kick in the 30th minute. It was beautiful to see Galatasaray SK's Mustafa Kemal Hozatlı in action when he in the 32nd minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! Cemal Bintuğ could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 38th minute of the match, but Teoman Kurboga made a huge save. Teoman Kurboga made a fantastic save in the 41st minute, when Cemal Bintuğ sent off a good shot on target. Mustafa Kemal Hozatlı received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Aktuğ Sezgin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Berker Yamaner made in the 45th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Ahmet İlhan Hiçyılmaz immediately put the ball in play. After the first half Galatasaray SK were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Cemal Bintuğ recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Galatasaray SK booed when Fenerbahçe was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ahmet İlhan Hiçyılmaz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fenerbahçe's Aktuğ Sezgin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ünal Toktaş in the 67th minute of play. In the 73rd minute, Ünal Toktaş made a precise shot to the right of Aktuğ Sezgin. Fenerbahçe's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. When Cemal Bintuğ fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fenerbahçe's protests and gave Cemal Bintuğ a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Fenerbahçe's Cemal Bintuğ got a free kick in the 81st minute. Teoman Kurboga showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mehmet Bilge Yetkiner, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. Teoman Kurboga didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Mehmet Bilge Yetkiner went, in the 89th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. The Fenerbahçe fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Galatasaray SK were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
