The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Cemaller fk getting a freekick after 2 minutes play. The Karagümrük fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hamdullah Gezer should have stopped the shot. In the 13th minute Aziz Çakmur shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hamdullah Gezer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hamdullah Gezer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gürsel Özertem in the 14th minute of the match. After 22 minutes, Alim Ocakoğlu mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cemaller fk and the Karagümrük players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Cemaller fk's Aziz Çakmur got a free kick in the 40th minute. Saadettin Uluman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Ali Çağrı Ongay tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Saadettin Uluman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ali Çağrı Ongay having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gürsel Özertem stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Karagümrük's supporters rose to their feet, but Behzat Neşat was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ali Çağrı Ongay breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ali Çağrı Ongay stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bayındır Mehmet Çeliktaş's shot from short distance in the 69th minute. 74 minutes into the match, Cemaller fk's goal looked a bit too open when Saadettin Uluman came free, but Ali Çağrı Ongay reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ali Çağrı Ongay showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from King Ferdinand in the 91st minute of the match. If Saadettin Uluman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
