The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 7 minutes into the match, Barnaul's Andrey Abhazov sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Vladimir Subbotin narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Novokuznetsk's zone, Kirill Bogomoltsev stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Vladimir Subbotin came out of the goal and Kirill Bogomoltsev tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Felix Goncharik during the 11th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 11th minute, one of Barnaul:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Barnaul. When the match had been going on for 13 minutes, Novokuznetsk's Nikita Dotsenko got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Tihon Makovetskiy. Andrey Abhazov fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vladimir Subbotin having to interfere. Vladimir Subbotin stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kirill Bogomoltsev's shot from short distance in the 24th minute. Matvey Gredeskul received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Tihon Makovetskiy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Andrey Abhazov sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Vladimir Subbotin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andrey Abhazov in the 32nd minute of play. After 35 played minutes Novokuznetsk got a freekick which was hit by Sergey Maksyukov. 36 minutes into the game, Maksimilian Kerzhakov was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Barnaul's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Novokuznetsk the free kick. In the 36th match minute, Barnaul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maksimilian Kerzhakov to maneuver through the defense. After 37 played minutes Novokuznetsk got a freekick which was hit by Sergey Maksyukov. After having played for 38 minutes, Kirill Bogomoltsev managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Barnaul's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kirill Bogomoltsev was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Kirill Bogomoltsev sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Matvey Gredeskul fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tihon Makovetskiy having to interfere. Novokuznetsk's Matvey Gredeskul got a good chance for a goal in the 44th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Andrey Abhazov scored 1-1 in the 46th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Vladimir Subbotin, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.
The wind increased when Matvey Gredeskul made the kick off in the second half. 58 minutes into the game, Emmanuil Bedritskiy was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Novokuznetsk's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Barnaul the free kick. The attack was good, but when Kirill Bogomoltsev in the 61st minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Vladimir Subbotin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Andrey Abhazov, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. A collision led to Barnaul getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Maksimilian Kerzhakov hit a great ball. 72 minutes into the match, Novokuznetsk's Matvey Gredeskul sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Tihon Makovetskiy narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 74th minute, Sergey Maksyukov made a precise shot to the right of Tihon Makovetskiy. Barnaul's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. The audience was convinced that Andrey Abhazov's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vladimir Subbotin was relentless in the 78th minute of the game. Tihon Makovetskiy showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sergey Maksyukov in the 80th minute of the match. After 82 played minutes Novokuznetsk got a freekick which was hit by Nikita Dotsenko. Barnaul's Konstantin Figner couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Novokuznetsk. Andrey Abhazov sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 87th minute Matvey Gredeskul shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tihon Makovetskiy saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Matvey Gredeskul managed to get in a good position for a shot. Novokuznetsk's supporters rose to their feet, but Matvey Gredeskul was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tihon Makovetskiy breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, Novokuznetsk's Vladimir Subbotin got control of the ball when Kirill Bogomoltsev tried to sneak it across the goal line. Matvey Gredeskul took the ball and in the 94 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Tihon Makovetskiy. Tihon Makovetskiy dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-2.
