The referee showed Sergey Shevchenko the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of FC Shakhtar Donetsk booed when Nevinnomyssk was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ilya Volkov didn't get a good kick on the ball. FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Igor Grivtsov played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Efim Kalachev in the 15th minute of play. FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Sergey Shevchenko got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Nevinnomyssk's Felix Novikov got a free kick in the 26th minute. In the 29th minute the ball was on its way in behind Nevinnomyssk's goalkeeper Aleksandr Malinovkin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Igor Grivtsov showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felix Novikov, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. In the 33rd minute, FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Rudolf Hubaev seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Rudolf Hubaev the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of FC Shakhtar Donetsk protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Rudolf Hubaev had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 37 played minutes FC Shakhtar Donetsk got a freekick which was hit by Grigoriy Rusakov. Felix Novikov kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Igor Grivtsov played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ilya Volkov in the 45th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Efim Elgarov managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Shakhtar Donetsk's supporters rose to their feet, but Efim Elgarov was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Aleksandr Malinovkin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The wind increased when Ilya Volkov made the kick off in the second half. Efim Elgarov struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Aleksandr Malinovkin didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Shakhtar Donetsk. 55 minutes into the match, Sergey Shevchenko notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Nevinnomyssk's Aleksandr Malinovkin. Aleksandr Malinovkin was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Sergey Shevchenko fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aleksandr Malinovkin having to interfere. Aleksandr Malinovkin stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sergey Shevchenko's shot from short distance in the 70th minute. After 70 minutes, Sergey Shevchenko made it 2-2 with a short kick to the right side. Nevinnomyssk's Aleksandr Malinovkin tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Ilya Volkov's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Igor Grivtsov read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 76th minute of play. Nevinnomyssk's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Arseniy Durnov in the 77th minute. Vladislav Alferov was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. If Sergey Shevchenko had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marat Balkashin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Igor Grivtsov having to interfere. In the 85th minute, Felix Novikov ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Igor Grivtsov was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-3. With a little luck, FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Igor Grivtsov got control of the ball when Efim Kalachev tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 90th minute, Nevinnomyssk's Vladislav Alferov dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-4. When Sergey Shevchenko came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the FC Shakhtar Donetsk fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sergey Shevchenko couldn't finish the play. When Felix Novikov was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 95 minutes had been played. In the 96th minute, Felix Novikov hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nevinnomyssk were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over FC Shakhtar Donetsk's much stronger midfield.
