In the 5th minute Victor Mălin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mugurel Gruescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tudor Gurzău didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 16 played minutes Spurs got a freekick which was hit by Eric Drăgoi. Mugur Trifănucă fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mugurel Gruescu having to interfere. Victor Mălin took the ball and in the 19 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Mugurel Gruescu. Mugurel Gruescu dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. 28 minutes into the game, Gigi Hapaina was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC STEAUA BAIA MARE's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Spurs the free kick. A collision led to FC STEAUA BAIA MARE getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Gigi Hapaina hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ivan Abraham got free with Cengiz Kont in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The crowd rose to their feet as Olimpiu Oproiu kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Cengiz Kont. That made the score 2-2 in the 30 minute of play. 41 minutes into the match, FC STEAUA BAIA MARE's goal looked a bit too open when Olimpiu Oproiu came free, but Cengiz Kont reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Olimpiu Oproiu made the kick off in the second half. If Gigi Hapaina had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 64 minutes into the game, Olimpiu Oproiu cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-2. Cengiz Kont was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Mugurel Gruescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Emilian Albeanu in the 67th minute of play. In the 69th match minute, Spurs was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Olimpiu Oproiu to maneuver through the defense. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mugur Trifănucă in the 70th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mugurel Gruescu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Avni İşcan lost his temper 72 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In the 71st minute, one of FC STEAUA BAIA MARE:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for FC STEAUA BAIA MARE. In the 74th minute there was a penalty for Spurs. Gigi Hapaina sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Many of FC STEAUA BAIA MARE's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. FC STEAUA BAIA MARE may have spent more time on the ball, but Spurs were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
