FC Universitatea Cluj's Mădălin Sorin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dorin Junilă in the 5th minute of play. Mădălin Sorin didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Costică Grindeanu went, in the 12th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. After a defensive mix-up in Domald's zone, Toader Leahu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eusebiu Mitrea came out of the goal and Toader Leahu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Toader Leahu received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Eusebiu Mitrea came out and tried to block the shot, but Toader Leahu slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 17th minute. In the 20th minute, Marinos Siontis left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FC Universitatea Cluj fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. Mădălin Sorin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Octav Geolgău in the 30th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marinos Siontis got free with Eusebiu Mitrea in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Dorin Junilă had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aron Diaconu's late challenge caught a Domald's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Aron Diaconu helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to FC Universitatea Cluj getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Aron Diaconu hit a great ball. Mădălin Sorin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dorin Junilă, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mădălin Sorin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Costică Grindeanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. If Clifton Bongailas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

A collision led to Domald getting a freekick after 50 minutes play. Gigi Amitroaiei hit a great ball. 52 minutes into the game, Marinos Siontis cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-2. Eusebiu Mitrea was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Marinos Siontis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Toader Leahu in the 79th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Eusebiu Mitrea prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 80th match minute, Domald was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Octav Geolgău to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 82nd minute, Marinos Siontis managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Universitatea Cluj's supporters rose to their feet, but Marinos Siontis was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eusebiu Mitrea breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 87th minute, Toader Leahu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Clifton Bongailas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Eusebiu Mitrea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
