Vasile Stanomir was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. A collision led to Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Adrian Argăseală hit a great ball. With a little luck, Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu's Natalio Etxeberri got control of the ball when Emanuel Ştiopul tried to sneak it across the goal line. Natalio Etxeberri made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mihai Bădiliță in the 30th minute. In the 31st match minute, Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aurel Negură to maneuver through the defense. Butuluc's Dacian Mendrea couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu. If Horia Musceleanu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu defense, Emanuel Ştiopul kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Natalio Etxeberri. The Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Natalio Etxeberri should have stopped the shot. 41 minutes into the match, Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu's goalkeeper Natalio Etxeberri had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mihai Bădiliță. Aurel Negură sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Aurel Militaru kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Sever Luțu to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sever Luțu in the 51st minute of play forced Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu's goalkeeper Natalio Etxeberri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Horia Musceleanu's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vasile Stanomir was relentless in the 53rd minute of the game. Natalio Etxeberri showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nicu Ghițulescu in the 68th minute of the match. Natalio Etxeberri didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nicu Ghițulescu went, in the 71st minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicu Ghițulescu in the 75th minute of play forced Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu's goalkeeper Natalio Etxeberri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 77th minute the ball was on its way in behind Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu's goalkeeper Natalio Etxeberri, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sever Luțu in the 79th minute of play forced Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu's goalkeeper Natalio Etxeberri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Natalio Etxeberri showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emanuel Ştiopul, who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute. In the 82nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Butuluc's goalkeeper Vasile Stanomir, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu were awarded a corner in the 84th minute after Butuluc's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Stelian Carp took the corner. The corner led Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu's Stelian Carp to fire away a dangerous shot which Vasile Stanomir despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 86th match minute, Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aurel Negură to maneuver through the defense. Natalio Etxeberri made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sever Luțu in the 88th minute of play. Eugen Bălașa recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 91st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mihai Bădiliță in the 94th minute of play forced Phoenix MMXVI Sibiu's goalkeeper Natalio Etxeberri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nicu Ghițulescu took the ball and in the 95 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Natalio Etxeberri. Natalio Etxeberri dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. There was no doubt that Butuluc were the better team. Butuluc's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
