Iustinian Deșliu kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Teodor Dăianu in the 19th minute of play forced U CLUJ 2007's goalkeeper Avram Agudin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Iustinian Deșliu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Avram Agudin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Corneliu Pora had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Dacian Dumitrescu fell near the penalty area in the 34th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U CLUJ 2007's protests and gave Dacian Dumitrescu a yellow card for diving instead. Dacian Dumitrescu kicked well hit freekick during the 34th minute of the match. After 35 played minutes, Steaua's Cristinel Antohi shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Avram Agudin came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Steaua reached it. Ştefan Novac took the ball and in the 36 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Filip Predoiu. Filip Predoiu dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Filip Predoiu made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ştefan Novac in the 40th minute. The supporters of Steaua booed when U CLUJ 2007 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mugurel Tarchilă didn't get a good kick on the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Iustinian Deșliu was the one to do the kick off. In the 65th match minute, Steaua was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Adrian Gaciu to maneuver through the defense. U CLUJ 2007's Ştefan Novac got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dacian Dumitrescu was shown his second yellow card after 71 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Cristinel Antohi went to the cornerflag to take it. Steaua's Cristinel Antohi was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Avram Agudin in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 95th minute, Ştefan Novac got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
