Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Albrecht Brenner in the 10th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Emilian Caramitru prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When the match clock showed 13 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Albrecht Brenner sped through CFR Triaj's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Emilian Caramitru. After a rather tough play, CFR Triaj's Horia Stolojan got a free kick in the 17th minute. Aron Arghiroiu came free with the goalkeeper in the 20th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Nicu Magheran could save by the left post. Luca Todericiu scored 1-1 in the 21st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nicu Magheran, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Emilian Caramitru stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Albrecht Brenner's shot from short distance in the 28th minute. Romeo Duca received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Emilian Caramitru tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Emilian Caramitru made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Albrecht Brenner in the 46th minute of play forced CFR Triaj's goalkeeper Emilian Caramitru to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of CFR CLUJ booed when CFR Triaj was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ovidiu Barbu didn't get a good kick on the ball.

In the 65th minute Ovidiu Barbu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nicu Magheran saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nicu Magheran made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aron Arghiroiu in the 66th minute of play. With his leg Emilian Caramitru managed to avoid a goal in the 69thth minute, when CFR CLUJ's Albrecht Brenner fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Horia Stolojan's late challenge caught a CFR CLUJ's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Horia Stolojan helped the player get up and apologised. In the 79th match minute, CFR Triaj was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Horia Stolojan to maneuver through the defense. 81 minutes into the match, CFR CLUJ's Romeo Duca sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Emilian Caramitru narrowly saved just below the crossbar. CFR CLUJ's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Nicu Magheran showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Toader Godeanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. 92 minutes into the game, Luca Todericiu cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-3. Nicu Magheran was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some fancy dribbling in the 97th minute, Romeo Duca managed to get in a good position for a shot. CFR CLUJ's supporters rose to their feet, but Romeo Duca was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Emilian Caramitru breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the match was over CFR CLUJ could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than CFR Triaj throughout the match.
