Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Surina's Mircea Găvănescu started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 2nd minute Vlad Cornoiu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mircea Silişteanu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Aurel Negrescu charged in rather forcefully in the 3rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Aurel Negrescu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to FCSB getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Florin Grecu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mircea Silişteanu having to interfere. Marius Sădeanu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mircea Găvănescu in the 10th minute of play. A collision led to FCSB getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Aurel Negrescu hit a great ball. Sorin Calomfirescu lost his temper 21 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. Marius Sădeanu had in the 23rdth minute some difficulties stopping Gică Onitiu's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After 24 minutes FCSB's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Gică Onitiu who took care of the corner kick. The supporters of FCSB booed when Surina was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eliodor Medeleanu didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 26 played minutes Surina got a freekick which was hit by Iulian Răuţă. Gică Gârneață's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 28thth minute, Mircea Silişteanu skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Marius Sădeanu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mircea Găvănescu in the 30th minute of the match. 32 minutes into the match, FCSB's goal looked a bit too open when Mircea Găvănescu came free, but Marius Sădeanu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mircea Găvănescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Marius Sădeanu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, FCSB's Florin Grecu got a free kick in the 40th minute. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Florin Grecu to strike the kick off in the second half. Mircea Găvănescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Marius Sădeanu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mircea Silişteanu came out of the goal in the 55th minute to try and stop a shot by FCSB's Gică Gârneață. But to his dismay, Gică Gârneață quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Marius Sădeanu made a fantastic save in the 60th minute, when Mircea Găvănescu sent off a good shot on target. 63 minutes into the game, Gică Gârneață was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FCSB's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Surina the free kick. Gică Gârneață hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. Marius Sădeanu made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mircea Găvănescu in the 68th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eliodor Medeleanu in the 70th minute of play forced FCSB's goalkeeper Marius Sădeanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. FCSB's supporters rose to their feet, but Gică Gârneață was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mircea Silişteanu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 95 minutes of play, FCSB's Gică Gârneață made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Mircea Silişteanu was left in no man's land by his defense there!
