Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Valer Manea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nicu Bărăian in the 13th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nicu Bărăian in the 16th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Valer Manea saved Ulies from getting behind. Gică Chevereșan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cornel Hăvârneanu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A very good chance. 30 minutes into the match, Ulies's goalkeeper Valer Manea had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Iulian Lopatnicu. When Nicu Bărăian, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 32 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Valer Manea was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Valer Manea made a fantastic save in the 38th minute, when Iulian Lopatnicu sent off a good shot on target. Claudiu Arapașu took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 40th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Valer Manea. Ulies's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 44th minute, Cristian Vâlcu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 48th minute Nicu Bărăian shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valer Manea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nicu Bărăian was the one to do the kick off. Ulies's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristi Isăilă was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the Ulies defense, Nae Bulzan kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Valer Manea. The Ulies fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Valer Manea should have stopped the shot. Gică Chevereșan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cornel Hăvârneanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. In the 73rd minute Nicu Bărăian shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valer Manea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gică Chevereșan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cornel Hăvârneanu in the 79th minute of play. If Nicu Bărăian had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After having played for 85 minutes, Iulian Lopatnicu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Iulian Lopatnicu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valer Manea having to interfere. Nicu Bărăian sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ulies's Valer Manea played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Iulian Lopatnicu in the 96th minute of play. Ulies's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
