Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Universitatea Cluj's Andrei Avram started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the game, Cristi Şania cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Emilian Comarnescu was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. With an all-out effort, Izvorasu AC's Emilian Comarnescu threw himself towards the right post 6 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ciprian Chibulcutean, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Toader Câmpeanu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Doru Hogaș having to interfere. 12 minutes into the game, Paul Ceaușescu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Izvorasu AC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Universitatea Cluj the free kick. After 12 played minutes Izvorasu AC got a freekick which was hit by Paul Ceaușescu. Andrei Avram received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Doru Hogaș tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Doru Hogaș made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Toader Câmpeanu in the 18th minute of play. 20 minutes into the match, Universitatea Cluj's goal looked a bit too open when Ciprian Chibulcutean came free, but Emilian Comarnescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristi Şania got free with Emilian Comarnescu in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Andrei Avram scored 1-1 in the 24th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Doru Hogaș, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, Universitatea Cluj's Ion Ghercioiu got a free kick in the 29th minute. In the 31st minute, Toader Câmpeanu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Cristi Şania had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cristi Şania could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 39th minute of the match, but Emilian Comarnescu made a huge save. With a little luck, Universitatea Cluj's Emilian Comarnescu got control of the ball when Cristi Şania tried to sneak it across the goal line. Emilian Comarnescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ciprian Chibulcutean in the 43rd minute of play. After 44 minutes, Ion Ghercioiu mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Universitatea Cluj and the Izvorasu AC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Damian Buzoianu charged in rather forcefully in the 46th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Damian Buzoianu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Universitatea Cluj booed when Izvorasu AC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Damian Buzoianu didn't get a good kick on the ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ciprian Chibulcutean was the one to do the kick off. An unexpected shot in the 54th minute by Toader Câmpeanu got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Valeriu Budianu kicked well hit freekick during the 57th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Toader Câmpeanu got free with Doru Hogaș in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Andrei Avram received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Doru Hogaș tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 70th minute Petru Gorunescu suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. After 70 minutes, Cristi Şania mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Izvorasu AC and the Universitatea Cluj players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Izvorasu AC's Cristi Şania got a free kick in the 71st minute. Emilian Comarnescu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristi Şania, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 83 minutes into the match, Ciprian Chibulcutean notched a goal, 2-2, to the right of Universitatea Cluj's Emilian Comarnescu. Emilian Comarnescu was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Toader Câmpeanu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Izvorasu AC's zone, Ion Ghercioiu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Doru Hogaș came out of the goal and Ion Ghercioiu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Universitatea Cluj's Emilian Comarnescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ciprian Chibulcutean in the 93rd minute of play. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Universitatea Cluj players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
