A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Pavel Braniște hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. Eusebiu Pârvan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nistor Jecu in the 15th minute of the match. When Radu Melinescu fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC CFR Cluj's protests and gave Radu Melinescu a yellow card for diving instead. In the 16th minute, Radu Melinescu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Nistor Jecu managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC STEAUA-BTF's supporters rose to their feet, but Nistor Jecu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eusebiu Pârvan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 24th minute, Horaţiu Enache got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 27th minute, Horaţiu Enache made a precise shot to the right of Eusebiu Pârvan. FC CFR Cluj's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. If Horaţiu Enache had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Toader Nedelea blasted a shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ilie Geoană having to make a save. 41 minutes into the match, FC CFR Cluj's goal looked a bit too open when Horaţiu Enache came free, but Eusebiu Pârvan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ilie Geoană came out of the goal in the 47th minute to try and stop a shot by FC CFR Cluj's Toader Nedelea. But to his dismay, Toader Nedelea quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Cristi Zafiu was the one to do the kick off. FC STEAUA-BTF's Horaţiu Enache got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, FC CFR Cluj's Radu Melinescu got a free kick in the 61st minute. Nistor Jecu struck a weak shot in the 62nd minute. Eusebiu Pârvan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC STEAUA-BTF. After having played for 64 minutes, Toader Nedelea managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC CFR Cluj's supporters crossed their fingers, but Toader Nedelea was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ilie Geoană showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Toader Nedelea in the 68th minute of the match. Horaţiu Enache received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Eusebiu Pârvan came out and tried to block the shot, but Horaţiu Enache slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 70th minute. FC STEAUA-BTF's Ilie Geoană played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristi Zafiu in the 74th minute of play. 84 minutes into the match, FC STEAUA-BTF's Horaţiu Enache sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Eusebiu Pârvan narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Radu Melinescu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 85th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 87 minutes into the game, FC STEAUA-BTF's Nistor Jecu nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Eusebiu Pârvan made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Nistor Jecu managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC STEAUA-BTF's supporters rose to their feet, but Nistor Jecu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eusebiu Pârvan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of FC STEAUA-BTF booed when FC CFR Cluj was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eusebiu Nisipeanu didn't get a good kick on the ball.
