In the 2nd minute, Sergiu Panțâru hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 6th minute of the match Avram Amandiței sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ionică Tomoioagă skillfully saved the ball. Daniël Bergkamp received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Ionică Tomoioagă tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 8 minutes into the match, CFR Cluj's goal looked a bit too open when Sergiu Panțâru came free, but Ionică Tomoioagă reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Daniël Bergkamp fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ionică Tomoioagă having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Daniël Bergkamp in the 14th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ionică Tomoioagă prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Adam Banica made a fantastic save in the 15th minute, when Alex Agulescu sent off a good shot on target. When Universitatea Craiova's Daniël Bergkamp in the 18th minute got a chance for a shot 18th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye CFR Cluj's goalie prevented a goal. 20 minutes into the game, Alex Agulescu cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Adam Banica was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 23rd minute, Sergiu Panțâru got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 25th minute of the match, Cristi Moromete got a very nice opportunity to score, but Adam Banica was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Daniël Bergkamp recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ionică Tomoioagă stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Daniël Bergkamp's shot from short distance in the 30th minute. In the 34th minute, Universitatea Craiova's Avram Amandiței seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Avram Amandiței the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Universitatea Craiova protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Avram Amandiței had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. When the match had been going on for 37 minutes, CFR Cluj's Horea Zotincă got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Adam Banica. Daniël Bergkamp recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Daniël Bergkamp had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

When Daniël Bergkamp came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the Universitatea Craiova fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniël Bergkamp couldn't finish the play. Daniël Bergkamp received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Ionică Tomoioagă tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Adam Banica made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cazimir Brănet in the 64th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Daniël Bergkamp managed to get in a good position for a shot. Universitatea Craiova's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniël Bergkamp was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ionică Tomoioagă breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. CFR Cluj's Ionică Tomoioagă played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sergiu Panțâru in the 73rd minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Daniël Bergkamp in the 77th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ionică Tomoioagă saved CFR Cluj from getting behind. In the 79th minute, Costică Bobocea made a precise shot to the right of Ionică Tomoioagă. CFR Cluj's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. In the 84th minute, Cristi Moromete hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With his leg Ionică Tomoioagă managed to avoid a goal in the 87thth minute, when Universitatea Craiova's Daniël Bergkamp fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 89 minutes into the match, Daniël Bergkamp dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ionică Tomoioagă, 2-3. Cristi Moromete kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. Ionică Tomoioagă made a fantastic save in the 95th minute, when Daniël Bergkamp sent off a good shot on target. Universitatea Craiova's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
