The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Ion Elisei fell near the penalty area in the 5th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Buta's protests and gave Ion Elisei a yellow card for diving instead. Ion Elisei hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. Nicodim Târban didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Damian Apostol went, in the 7th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Petru Curuțiu in the 11th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Iurie Magheran saved Buta from getting behind. Nicodim Târban made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sergiu Jușcă in the 15th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ion Elisei in the 16th minute of play forced Steaua Bihorului's goalkeeper Nicodim Târban to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 19 minutes into the match, Buta's goalkeeper Iurie Magheran had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Albert Irimia. Albert Irimia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 23 minutes of play Buta's Ion Elisei was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. A collision led to Buta getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Ion Elisei hit a great ball. Nicodim Târban showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emil Jitaru in the 28th minute of the match. 33 minutes into the match, Buta's Emil Jitaru sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nicodim Târban narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Andrei Arșanu's late challenge caught a Buta's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Andrei Arșanu helped the player get up and apologised. 40 minutes into the match, Buta's goal looked a bit too open when Petru Curuțiu came free, but Iurie Magheran reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 48th minute, Albert Irimia got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Petru Curuțiu was the one to do the kick off. In the 52nd match minute, Buta was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luca Jușcă to maneuver through the defense. Nicodim Târban showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emil Jitaru, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. Gavril Chivulescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Iurie Magheran tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Emil Jitaru got free with Nicodim Târban in the 86th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Steaua Bihorului's Nicodim Târban played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Damian Apostol in the 88th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Steaua Bihorului's Costel Aalexoaiei got a free kick in the 88th minute. Emil Jitaru's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 90thth minute, Nicodim Târban skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Albert Irimia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Iurie Magheran having to interfere. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Steaua Bihorului players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
