The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Viorel Vlăsiu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 18th minute of the match, but Gică Bornescu made a huge save. The crowd rose to their feet as F.C. Buzau's Rareș Popoiu slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Gică Bornescu. That made the score 2-0 after 19 minutes of play. Ilie Levițchi hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. If Flavius Floreanu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cătălin Țepelea's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sorin Smarandache read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. Sorin Smarandache came out of the goal in the 36th minute to try and stop a shot by Fc Poli Unirea Iasi's Emil Mitrea. But to his dismay, Emil Mitrea quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. If Viorel Vlăsiu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rareș Popoiu was the one to do the kick off. Cătălin Țepelea kicked well hit freekick during the 58th minute of the match. In the 73rd minute, Marin Muraru made a precise shot to the right of Gică Bornescu. Fc Poli Unirea Iasi's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. In the 79th minute, Viorel Vlăsiu made a precise shot to the right of Gică Bornescu. In the 96th minute, Viorel Vlăsiu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
