After 5 played minutes Fc Poli Unirea Iasi got a freekick which was hit by Emil Mitrea. Eduard Sitaru who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 8thth minute tested the skills of Gică Bornescu when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Sorin Plăcintă fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gică Bornescu having to interfere. During the 13th minute of the match Emil Mitrea completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Emil Mitrea a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. The supporters of Capiteni booed when Fc Poli Unirea Iasi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emil Mitrea didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Fc Poli Unirea Iasi's zone, Eduard Sitaru stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gică Bornescu came out of the goal and Eduard Sitaru tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a little luck, Fc Poli Unirea Iasi's Gică Bornescu got control of the ball when Eduard Sitaru tried to sneak it across the goal line. Capiteni's Eduard Sitaru got a good chance for a goal in the 21st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gică Bornescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tudor Iliescu, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Through an outstanding action, after 26 minutes, Gică Bornescu successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Fc Poli Unirea Iasi's Gică Bornescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tudor Iliescu in the 29th minute of play. Flavius Floreanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Gheorghe Susara tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Eduard Sitaru recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 35th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Fc Poli Unirea Iasi's zone, Tudor Iliescu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gică Bornescu came out of the goal and Tudor Iliescu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gică Bornescu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tudor Iliescu in the 40th minute of the match. The supporters of Fc Poli Unirea Iasi booed when Capiteni was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Bondrea didn't get a good kick on the ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Flavius Floreanu was the one to do the kick off. Tudor Iliescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Gică Bornescu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Eduard Sitaru struck a weak shot in the 60th minute. Gică Bornescu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Capiteni. If Tudor Iliescu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tudor Iliescu might have been able to make a better finish in the 76th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gică Bornescu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tudor Iliescu ran back to his position shaking his head. When Tudor Iliescu came up free with the goalie in the 77th minute, the Capiteni fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tudor Iliescu couldn't finish the play. If Sorin Plăcintă had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 86th minute, Tudor Iliescu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Capiteni's supporters rose to their feet, but Tudor Iliescu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gică Bornescu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Eduard Sitaru fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gică Bornescu having to interfere. In the 90th minute Tudor Iliescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gică Bornescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Capiteni fully deserved thier win.
