Spectators: 7474 (Terracing: 5607, Seating: 1718, VIP seats: 149) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Augustin Săndoi started the match with the kick off. After 3 played minutes CSMS Iasi got a freekick which was hit by Marin Vasiliu. Augustin Săndoi blasted a shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Valentin Manea having to make a save. Marin Vasiliu's late challenge caught a FC POLITEHNICA TIMISOARA's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Marin Vasiliu helped the player get up and apologised. After 22 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for CSMS Iasi! Adam Tuleiu shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Tudor Petcu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dacian Brânzaru, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. After having played for 29 minutes, Augustin Săndoi managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC POLITEHNICA TIMISOARA's supporters crossed their fingers, but Augustin Săndoi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Doru Moisescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Tudor Petcu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 35 minutes into the game, Viorel Chitimia cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Valentin Manea was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Augustin Săndoi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Eusebiu Muraru hit a great freekick 48 minutes into the match. Dacian Brânzaru fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 49th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tudor Petcu having to interfere. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Doru Moisescu was the one to do the kick off. Tudor Petcu didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Dacian Brânzaru went, in the 54th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. If Viorel Chitimia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Augustin Săndoi in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Valentin Manea prevented the ball from getting in the gole. FC POLITEHNICA TIMISOARA's Viorel Chitimia got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 66 minutes into the game, Marcel Arsenescu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. CSMS Iasi's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC POLITEHNICA TIMISOARA the free kick. Viorel Chitimia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valentin Manea having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Viorel Chitimia's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Valentin Manea was relentless in the 75th minute of the game. If Viorel Chitimia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. FC POLITEHNICA TIMISOARA's Viorel Chitimia got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Valentin Manea stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Viorel Chitimia's shot from short distance in the 89th minute. If Doru Moisescu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 99th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the FC POLITEHNICA TIMISOARA players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
