The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 11th minute Mircea Joja shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Octavian Pordea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Romeo Gherasim had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 14 minutes into the match, Fc. Botosani's goal looked a bit too open when Romeo Gherasim came free, but Eric Niculcea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 16th minute Nae Vişoianu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eric Niculcea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Eric Niculcea stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nae Vişoianu's shot from short distance in the 18th minute. Romeo Gherasim fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eric Niculcea having to interfere. Mircea Joja received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Octavian Pordea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Romeo Gherasim fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eric Niculcea having to interfere. If Nae Vişoianu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 38 minutes Fc. Botosani's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Cristi Botea who took care of the corner kick. Gheoca's Cristi Botea was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Eric Niculcea in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. 39 minutes into the match, Romeo Gherasim notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Fc. Botosani's Eric Niculcea. Eric Niculcea was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Gheoca's Octavian Pordea played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mircea Joja in the 43rd minute of play. After 46 played minutes Gheoca got a freekick which was hit by Romeo Gherasim. Cornel Condeescu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 49th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Octavian Pordea having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Mircea Joja made a kick off. Romeo Gherasim sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 65 minutes into the game, Fc. Botosani's Mircea Joja nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Octavian Pordea made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Cornel Condeescu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Cornel Condeescu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 74 played minutes Gheoca got a freekick which was hit by Florin Luțu. Mircea Joja fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Octavian Pordea having to interfere. With a little luck, Fc. Botosani's Eric Niculcea got control of the ball when Nae Vişoianu tried to sneak it across the goal line. Corneliu Dominte hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. If Romeo Gherasim had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eric Niculcea came out of the goal in the 93rd minute to try and stop a shot by Gheoca's Mircea Zgârcu. But to his dismay, Mircea Zgârcu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. The Gheoca supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Gheoca would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
