The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After having played for 9 minutes, Gigel Cotuțiu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Romania's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gigel Cotuțiu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 10 played minutes Cojmanesti got a freekick which was hit by Aurel Iftode. Emilian Hurmuzescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eliodor Brănescu, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Romania's zone, Eliodor Brănescu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Emilian Hurmuzescu came out of the goal and Eliodor Brănescu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 26th minute, Eliodor Brănescu ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Emilian Hurmuzescu was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Narcis Nanu in the 35th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Emilian Hurmuzescu saved Romania from getting behind. A collision led to Romania getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Vintilă Voinescu hit a great ball. Emilian Hurmuzescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eliodor Brănescu, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Grigore Panțâru's late challenge caught a Romania's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Grigore Panțâru helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Cojmanesti getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Grigore Panțâru hit a great ball. After 43 minutes of play, Cojmanesti's Narcis Nanu made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Emilian Hurmuzescu was left in no man's land by his defense there! The Romania players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Cojmanesti were winning 0-2.

The audience was convinced that Eliodor Brănescu's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Emilian Hurmuzescu was relentless in the 57th minute of the game.
