Mihai Gherdan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gheorghe Mateescu in the 20th minute of play. Gheorghe Mateescu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mihai Gherdan having to interfere. Pavel Jucu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Liviu Săvoiu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Through an outstanding action, after 31 minutes, Liviu Săvoiu successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gheorghe Istrate to make the kick off.
