The referee ignored Luminis's protests and gave Felix Calciu a yellow card for diving instead. After 3 played minutes Luminis got a freekick which was hit by Felix Calciu. The supporters of VfB Stuttgart booed when Luminis was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Calciu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ştefan Bălăiță was extremely unlucky when he, in the 10th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. A collision led to Luminis getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Ştefan Bărbuceanu hit a great ball. Luminis's Fabian Cârstoiu proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 15th minute of the match, managed to save Luminis from getting a goal against them. After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, Vintilă Drogoreanu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Luminis's supporters rose to their feet, but Vintilă Drogoreanu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Paul Ciurea breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Vintilă Drogoreanu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Paul Ciurea read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Luminis's Fabian Chiriac got a free kick in the 29th minute. After a defensive mix-up in VfB Stuttgart's zone, Vintilă Drogoreanu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paul Ciurea came out of the goal and Vintilă Drogoreanu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 34th minute Vintilă Drogoreanu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paul Ciurea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ştefan Bărbuceanu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 46 minutes into the match, Luminis's Fabian Chiriac sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Paul Ciurea narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Luminis's Fabian Cârstoiu proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 48th minute of the match, managed to save Luminis from getting a goal against them. After the first half Luminis were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Vintilă Drogoreanu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Paul Ciurea made a huge save. Eliodor Poplăcan hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. Vintilă Drogoreanu charged in rather forcefully in the 58th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vintilă Drogoreanu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. When the match had gone on for 67 minutes, Fabian Chiriac took a quick shot and it went in 0-2 without a chance for Paul Ciurea to make any attempt to save it. Ştefan Bărbuceanu hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. Fabian Cârstoiu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Florin Jianu in the 79th minute of the match. If Vintilă Drogoreanu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 85th minute Ştefan Bărbuceanu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paul Ciurea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Florin Jianu struck a weak shot in the 88th minute. Fabian Cârstoiu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for VfB Stuttgart. Fabian Chiriac blasted a shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Paul Ciurea having to make a save.
