Leontin Buznea charged in rather forcefully in the 6th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Leontin Buznea the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 7th match minute, Milan was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leontin Buznea to maneuver through the defense. Sergiu Pelin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sergiu Pelin recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 11th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sergiu Pelin in the 13th minute of play forced Milan's goalkeeper Costin Chesaru to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mircea Bărbătescu struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Costin Chesaru didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Steaua FCSB. Dinu Tecău's late challenge caught a Milan's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dinu Tecău helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Steaua FCSB getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Dinu Tecău hit a great ball. After 23 played minutes Sergiu Pelin rounded Milan's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-0. When Felix Spiridon fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Steaua FCSB's protests and gave Felix Spiridon a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Milan booed when Steaua FCSB was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Spiridon didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Milan's Francisc Iorga in the 33rd minute got a chance for a shot 33rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Steaua FCSB's goalie prevented a goal. In the 35th minute, Francisc Iorga got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Costin Chesaru made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mircea Bărbătescu in the 42nd minute. After 43 played minutes Milan got a freekick which was hit by Leontin Buznea. Valentin Mangra, 44 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Milan's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Sergiu Pelin 46 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-0. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Eugen Cristoiu made the kick off in the second half. Gheorghe Grecea kicked well hit freekick during the 54th minute of the match. After 57 played minutes, Milan's Daniel Filipașcu shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Costică Diaconescu came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Milan reached it. Eugen Cristoiu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sergiu Pelin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Costin Chesaru tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 65 minutes into the match, Milan's goal looked a bit too open when Mircea Bărbătescu came free, but Costin Chesaru reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 66 played minutes Milan got a freekick which was hit by Leontin Buznea. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Mircea Bărbătescu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Steaua FCSB's supporters rose to their feet, but Mircea Bărbătescu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Costin Chesaru breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Sergiu Pelin recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Mircea Bărbătescu came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Steaua FCSB fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mircea Bărbătescu couldn't finish the play. Costin Chesaru showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sergiu Pelin in the 74th minute of the match. Costin Chesaru made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sergiu Pelin in the 80th minute of play. Costin Chesaru showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mircea Bărbătescu, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. A collision led to Milan getting a freekick after 88 minutes play. Nistor Tăcutu hit a great ball. Milan's Costin Chesaru played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sergiu Pelin in the 90th minute of play. 91 minutes into the match, Sergiu Pelin had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Costin Chesaru. Milan's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Sergiu Pelin was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. When Sergiu Pelin came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the Steaua FCSB fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sergiu Pelin couldn't finish the play. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Steaua FCSB fans cheered their team off the field, for while Milan had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
