Red Bull CLUJ's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Patars AS the free kick. After 10 played minutes Red Bull CLUJ got a freekick which was hit by Radu Alucusan. Anton Voinescu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience was convinced that Vali Ozon's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sandu Codrea was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. 18 minutes into the match, Patars AS's goal looked a bit too open when Eduard Harnagea came free, but Emilian Ciocan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 22ndth minute of the game Eduard Harnagea who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Patars AS's Emilian Ciocan was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Calistrat Brănescu charged in rather forcefully in the 23rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Calistrat Brănescu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Patars AS booed when Red Bull CLUJ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Calistrat Brănescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eduard Harnagea fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Emilian Ciocan having to interfere. 37 minutes into the match, Patars AS's goal looked a bit too open when Matei Floruțiu came free, but Emilian Ciocan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Matei Floruțiu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 39th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Eduard Harnagea came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Red Bull CLUJ fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eduard Harnagea couldn't finish the play. The audience was convinced that Matei Floruțiu's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Emilian Ciocan was relentless in the 45th minute of the game. After the first half Red Bull CLUJ were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Vali Ozon was the one to do the kick off. After 83 minutes of play, Patars AS's Anton Voinescu made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Sandu Codrea was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 86 played minutes Patars AS got a freekick which was hit by Narcis Pavel. Matei Floruțiu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 94th minute Vali Ozon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sandu Codrea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Matei Floruțiu got free with Emilian Ciocan in the 98th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The Red Bull CLUJ supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Red Bull CLUJ would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
