Spectators: 7176 (Terracing: 5300, Seating: 1726, VIP seats: 150) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Petre Zafiu took the kick off in the first half of the match. Bogdan Mangra made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cosmin Ţopescu in the 3rd minute. Cazimir Davidescu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alex Coroian, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Martin Codrescu fell near the penalty area in the 11th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored CS UNIVERSITATEA CRAIOVA's protests and gave Martin Codrescu a yellow card for diving instead. Martin Codrescu kicked well hit freekick during the 11th minute of the match. In the 12th minute, Petre Zafiu left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Phoenix Baia Mare fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. In the 16th minute Petre Zafiu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bogdan Mangra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Petre Zafiu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 37th minute Alex Coroian shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cazimir Davidescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 40 minutes into the match, Phoenix Baia Mare's goal looked a bit too open when Viorel Hăulică came free, but Cazimir Davidescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Phoenix Baia Mare's Cazimir Davidescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Viorel Hăulică in the 42nd minute of play. 1-1 became the score in the 47th minute when Alex Coroian elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar.

Martin Codrescu was shown his second yellow card after 56 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 57th match minute, CS UNIVERSITATEA CRAIOVA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Martin Codrescu to maneuver through the defense. Viorel Hăulică's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cazimir Davidescu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 74th minute of play. After 76 minutes Phoenix Baia Mare's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Virgil Crăciunaș who took care of the corner kick. Mihăiţă Andronache's late challenge caught a Phoenix Baia Mare's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
