Gelu Zubaşcu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pompiliu Cângea having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Flamanzesti's Alexandru Ogică got a free kick in the 41st minute. Pompiliu Cângea made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mircea Buricea in the 47th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gelu Zubaşcu in the 48th minute of play forced Flamanzesti's goalkeeper Pompiliu Cângea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
