The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ilie Drogoreanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Mircea Ciocâlteu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 0-1 became the score in the 6th minute when Romeo Cristian elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. When Ilie Drogoreanu came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the FC Bucuresti fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ilie Drogoreanu couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Steaua United's zone, Tudor Onitiu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mircea Ciocâlteu came out of the goal and Tudor Onitiu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mircea Ciocâlteu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tudor Onitiu in the 16th minute of play. After recieving a nice pass, Steaua United's Constantin Bulencea tried to score from far away in the 20th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Liviu Chelbea during the 25th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Steaua United's Liviu Chelbea got a free kick in the 25th minute. 28 minutes into the game, Tudor Onitiu cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Mircea Ciocâlteu was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. FC Bucuresti's Teodor Firu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by George Brezoi in the 33rd minute of play. George Brezoi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tudor Onitiu was the one to do the kick off. After having played for 51 minutes, George Brezoi managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Steaua United's supporters crossed their fingers, but George Brezoi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Mircea Ciocâlteu came out of the goal in the 53rd minute to try and stop a shot by FC Bucuresti's Tudor Onitiu. But to his dismay, Tudor Onitiu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Mircea Ciocâlteu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ilie Drogoreanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. Tudor Onitiu struck a weak shot in the 60th minute. Mircea Ciocâlteu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Bucuresti. In the 64th minute, Ilie Drogoreanu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 69th minute of the match Dumitru Rădoi shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Teodor Firu showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in FC Bucuresti's zone, Romeo Cristian stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Teodor Firu came out of the goal and Romeo Cristian tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 85th minute, Victor Mihăilescu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 86 minutes into the match, Steaua United's goal looked a bit too open when Tudor Onitiu came free, but Mircea Ciocâlteu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Romeo Cristian managed to get in a good position for a shot. Steaua United's supporters rose to their feet, but Romeo Cristian was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Teodor Firu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. FC Bucuresti's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
