The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Șerban Apăvăloaie during the 11th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, JIUL Petrosani's Șerban Apăvăloaie got a free kick in the 11th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Nechifor Aluneanu kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Ovidiu Cozmâncă. That made the score 2-0 in the 29 minute of play. Aristide Mischie received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Viorel Chindriș tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Aristide Mischie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Viorel Diaconu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ovidiu Cozmâncă read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 46th minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

In the 60thth minute of the game Viorel Diaconu who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Real Madrid C.F's Ovidiu Cozmâncă was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When Viorel Diaconu came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the JIUL Petrosani fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Viorel Diaconu couldn't finish the play. Viorel Diaconu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Nechifor Aluneanu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ovidiu Cozmâncă read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 72nd minute of play. Nechifor Aluneanu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.
