Dinu Cotoi started the match with the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Chindia Targoviste's zone, Victor Eniceicu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Isac Lupșoiu came out of the goal and Victor Eniceicu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. George Novacovici sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Dinu Cotoi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Dinu Cotoi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. If George Novacovici had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. George Novacovici struck a weak shot in the 16th minute. Marius Cupșa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Chindia Targoviste. With his leg Isac Lupșoiu managed to avoid a goal in the 22ndth minute, when FC Universitatea Craiova's Silviu Cojocaru fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Augustin Nanu managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Universitatea Craiova's supporters rose to their feet, but Augustin Nanu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Isac Lupșoiu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of FC Universitatea Craiova booed when Chindia Targoviste was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Remus Fetea didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marius Cupșa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dinu Cotoi in the 31st minute of play. FC Universitatea Craiova's Augustin Nanu got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Silviu Cojocaru had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If George Novacovici had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dinu Cotoi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Augustin Nanu made the kick off in the second half. Claudiu Bălcescu took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 51st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Marius Cupșa. FC Universitatea Craiova's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Silviu Cojocaru in the 59th minute of play forced Chindia Targoviste's goalkeeper Isac Lupșoiu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Augustin Nanu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Isac Lupșoiu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 60th minute of play. Marius Cupșa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dinu Cotoi in the 61st minute of play. Remus Fetea hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. After having played for 75 minutes, Silviu Cojocaru managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Universitatea Craiova's supporters crossed their fingers, but Silviu Cojocaru was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Remus Fetea during the 76th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 80 minutes into the match, FC Universitatea Craiova's Augustin Nanu sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Isac Lupșoiu narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Silviu Cojocaru took the ball and in the 81 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Isac Lupșoiu. Isac Lupșoiu dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. In the 85th minute, Remus Fetea hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Isac Lupșoiu came out of the goal in the 89th minute to try and stop a shot by FC Universitatea Craiova's Augustin Nanu. But to his dismay, Augustin Nanu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. George Novacovici received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Marius Cupșa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. For all the effort they put into the match, the Chindia Targoviste players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for FC Universitatea Craiova.
