With an extended leg and a bit of luck Eric Simionescu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 3rd minute, Costică Dragomiroiu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 6 minutes into the game, Steaua Bucuresti's Gheorghe Cunea nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Eric Simionescu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 10th minute Gheorghe Cunea shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eric Simionescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Steaua Bucuresti fans' excitement grew in the 11th match minute when Steaua Bucuresti's Gheorghe Cunea looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Eric Simionescu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gheorghe Cunea's shot from short distance in the 15th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aurel Pandrea in the 19th minute of play forced costobocii's goalkeeper Eric Simionescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Gheorghe Cunea had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 21st minute, Gheorghe Cunea ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Eric Simionescu was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. Eric Simionescu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ionuț Drumeș, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ionuț Drumeș took the ball and in the 25 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Eric Simionescu. Eric Simionescu dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-4. 0-5 became the score in the 28th minute when Ionuț Drumeș elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. After having played for 32 minutes, Traian Constantinescu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Steaua Bucuresti's supporters crossed their fingers, but Traian Constantinescu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 36th play minutes Gheorghe Cunea shot 0-6, a short shot which went by Eric Simionescu and just under the crossbar into goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gheorghe Cunea in the 39th minute of play forced costobocii's goalkeeper Eric Simionescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 43 minutes into the match, Gheorghe Cunea had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Eric Simionescu. costobocii's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gheorghe Cunea was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-8. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-8 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Nichifor Mumuleanu to strike the kick off in the second half. Eric Simionescu stood somewhat misplaced when Gheorghe Cunea came free in front of goal and shot 0-9 to the left of him in the 55 minute. Gheorghe Cunea had several of the costobocii's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 58 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 0-10 score and a disappointed Eric Simionescu as he didn't even see the shot coming. Gheorghe Cunea recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 61st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Traian Constantinescu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gheorghe Cunea might have been able to make a better finish in the 65th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Eric Simionescu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gheorghe Cunea ran back to his position shaking his head. Traian Constantinescu might have been able to make a better finish in the 67th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Eric Simionescu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Eric Simionescu didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gheorghe Cunea went, in the 68th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-11 was the resulting score. The audience was convinced that Gheorghe Cunea's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Eric Simionescu was relentless in the 75th minute of the game. After 76 minutes of play, Steaua Bucuresti's Traian Constantinescu made it 0-13 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Eric Simionescu was left in no man's land by his defense there! Costică Dragomiroiu charged in rather forcefully in the 78th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Costică Dragomiroiu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Gheorghe Cunea scored 0-14 in the 80th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Eric Simionescu, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Gheorghe Cunea received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Eric Simionescu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Traian Constantinescu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eric Simionescu having to interfere. A collision led to costobocii getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Costică Dragomiroiu hit a great ball. 91 minutes into the match, Gheorghe Cunea notched a goal, 0-16, to the right of costobocii's Eric Simionescu. Eric Simionescu was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. With a little luck, costobocii's Eric Simionescu got control of the ball when Gheorghe Cunea tried to sneak it across the goal line. Traian Constantinescu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Steaua Bucuresti played a much better game than costobocii and deserved their victory. The costobocii players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
