An unexpectedly hard shot by Ilie Mihele in the 16th minute of play forced Renașterea Drumul Taberei's goalkeeper Grigore Stolojan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 16th match minute, Renașterea Drumul Taberei was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Corneliu Todoran to maneuver through the defense. Renașterea Drumul Taberei were furious when Liviu Pelin was red carded, 22 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. Martin Tirulescu took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 41st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Marcel Uncheşelu. MANCHESTER CITY's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. A collision led to MANCHESTER CITY getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Valer Crăciun hit a great ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

After having played for 51 minutes, Valer Crăciun managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. MANCHESTER CITY's supporters crossed their fingers, but Valer Crăciun was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 53rd minute, Petru Pacuraru managed to get in a good position for a shot. Renașterea Drumul Taberei's supporters rose to their feet, but Petru Pacuraru was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marcel Uncheşelu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ilie Mihele in the 57th minute of play forced Renașterea Drumul Taberei's goalkeeper Grigore Stolojan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 58 played minutes Renașterea Drumul Taberei got a freekick which was hit by Horea Dobrotă. Nae Ruşdea's late challenge caught a MANCHESTER CITY's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nae Ruşdea helped the player get up and apologised. Nae Ruşdea sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, MANCHESTER CITY's Valer Crăciun got a free kick in the 82nd minute. In the 88th minute the ball was on its way in behind MANCHESTER CITY's goalkeeper Marcel Uncheşelu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Marcel Uncheşelu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Horea Dobrotă in the 89th minute of play. The Renașterea Drumul Taberei supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Renașterea Drumul Taberei would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
