Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Narcis Zăvoiu started the match with the kick off. In the 5th minute, Călin Dumitrachescu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Costin Goicea sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Călin Dumitrachescu got his second yellow card in the match during the 11th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. Virgil Nebunu struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Tudor Davidescu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Steaua. In the 28th minute, Anton Barbu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gherghita FCM's Narcis Zăvoiu got a good chance for a goal in the 30th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 34 minutes into the match, FC Steaua's goalkeeper Rareș Dumitru had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Sandu Moisescu.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Costin Goicea was the one to do the kick off. Costin Goicea received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Tudor Davidescu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gherghita FCM's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Costin Goicea 59 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 0-1. Rareș Dumitru made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Narcis Zăvoiu in the 63rd minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Costin Goicea managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Steaua's supporters rose to their feet, but Costin Goicea was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tudor Davidescu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gherghita FCM's Tudor Davidescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Costin Goicea in the 68th minute of play. Narcis Zăvoiu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Rareș Dumitru tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Virgil Nebunu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Costin Goicea had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Virgil Nebunu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 90 minutes into the match, Gherghita FCM's goal looked a bit too open when Costin Goicea came free, but Tudor Davidescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 91st minute, Costin Goicea got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Tudor Davidescu came out of the goal in the 93rd minute to try and stop a shot by FC Steaua's Virgil Nebunu. But to his dismay, Virgil Nebunu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2.
