After a defensive mix-up in CS Botosani BTF's zone, Andrei Vasilică stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mihai Zegreanu came out of the goal and Andrei Vasilică tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to CS Botosani BTF getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Lucian Onaca hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 8th minute, Gigi Săvoiu managed to get in a good position for a shot. GSBC Cluj-Napoca's supporters rose to their feet, but Gigi Săvoiu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mihai Zegreanu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. CS Botosani BTF's Mihai Zegreanu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Calistrat Stănciulaş in the 12th minute of play. In the 24th match minute, CS Botosani BTF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Octav Botescu to maneuver through the defense. Mihai Zegreanu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gigi Săvoiu in the 29th minute of the match. Calistrat Stănciulaş struck a weak shot in the 31st minute. Mihai Zegreanu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for GSBC Cluj-Napoca. Eric Avramescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Mircea Udroiu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Andrei Vasilică in the 46th minute of play forced CS Botosani BTF's goalkeeper Mihai Zegreanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Calistrat Stănciulaş struck a weak shot in the 48th minute. Mihai Zegreanu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for GSBC Cluj-Napoca. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Alex Tarcu to make the kick off. Mihai Zegreanu was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 58 minutes into the match, CS Botosani BTF's goalkeeper Mihai Zegreanu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Andrei Vasilică. Eric Avramescu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mihai Zegreanu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marin Buciuman in the 64th minute of play. Dragoş Peptan hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. If Andrei Vasilică had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Gigi Săvoiu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 70th minute of the match, but Mihai Zegreanu made a huge save. Andrei Vasilică sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 84th minute, Grigore Ciurea left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The GSBC Cluj-Napoca fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. After having played for 93 minutes, Andrei Vasilică managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. GSBC Cluj-Napoca's supporters crossed their fingers, but Andrei Vasilică was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
