After 5 minutes of play, Universitatea Cluj's Panait Alamaru made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ovidiu Bourceanu was left in no man's land by his defense there! After some fancy dribbling in the 9th minute, Adrian Barascu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Universitatea Cluj's supporters rose to their feet, but Adrian Barascu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ovidiu Bourceanu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 14th minute Grigore Sfetcu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ovidiu Bourceanu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Universitatea Cluj's Adrian Barascu got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 22 played minutes Universitatea Cluj got a freekick which was hit by Claudiu Haidău. In the 26th minute, Adrian Barascu ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ovidiu Bourceanu was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. After a rather tough play, Universitatea Cluj's Emil Stănciulaş got a free kick in the 30th minute. Irinel Zoreanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Dan Ciuhandu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Grigore Sfetcu got free with Ovidiu Bourceanu in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Grigore Sfetcus short, quick shot in the 44thth minute got Ovidiu Bourceanu to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Ovidiu Bourceanu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Claudiu Haidău, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. Francisc Alexandrescu kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Grigore Sfetcu to make the kick off. After having played for 51 minutes, Grigore Sfetcu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Universitatea Cluj's supporters crossed their fingers, but Grigore Sfetcu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Panait Alamaru sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ovidiu Bourceanu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Grigore Sfetcu, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Botesti's zone, Grigore Sfetcu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ovidiu Bourceanu came out of the goal and Grigore Sfetcu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Botesti's Ovidiu Bourceanu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adrian Barascu in the 85th minute of play. Ovidiu Bourceanu didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Panait Alamaru went, in the 86th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-0 was the resulting score. If Grigore Sfetcu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 96th minute Francisc Alexandrescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dan Ciuhandu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Universitatea Cluj had played much better football throughout.
