An unexpectedly hard shot by Florín Răducioiu in the 8th minute of play forced MZ Rapid's goalkeeper Ciprian Uncescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 10 minutes into the game, Steaua Bucuresti's Cristian Ploieșteanu nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ciprian Uncescu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Romeo Chelaru sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 19th minute, Steaua Bucuresti's Cristian Ploieșteanu ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Ciprian Uncescu. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 7-0 at half-time.

In the 79th minute Florín Răducioiu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ciprian Uncescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ciprian Uncescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Ploieșteanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cristian Ploieșteanu in the 84th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ciprian Uncescu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After having played for 86 minutes, Cristian Ploieșteanu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Steaua Bucuresti's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Ploieșteanu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the MZ Rapid defense, Roel Meertens kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ciprian Uncescu. The MZ Rapid fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ciprian Uncescu should have stopped the shot. Ciprian Uncescu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cristian Ploieșteanu's shot from short distance in the 93rd minute. Andrei Bologan hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. Ciprian Uncescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Ploieșteanu in the 94th minute of play. A collision led to MZ Rapid getting a freekick after 96 minutes play. Romeo Chelaru hit a great ball. There was no doubt that Steaua Bucuresti were the better team. Steaua Bucuresti's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
