A collision led to FCSB getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Mircea Ciocârlan hit a great ball. If Patrick Kluivert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ciprian Burtea in the 17th minute of play forced SC Steaua Chitila's goalkeeper Mihnea Spelbu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. David Milcoveanu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Vali Toma who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 40thth minute tested the skills of Mihnea Spelbu when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in SC Steaua Chitila's zone, Ciprian Burtea stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mihnea Spelbu came out of the goal and Ciprian Burtea tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If David Milcoveanu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 46th minute, one of SC Steaua Chitila:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for SC Steaua Chitila. Aron Cînu shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell David Milcoveanu to make the kick off. Ferdinand Brăescu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Traian Moldoveanu in the 54th minute of the match. In the 55th minute, Mădălin Tadici hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 58 minutes into the match, FCSB's goal looked a bit too open when David Milcoveanu came free, but Ferdinand Brăescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 59 played minutes FCSB got a freekick which was hit by Mugurel Barbăroșie. FCSB's Ferdinand Brăescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Francisc Moți in the 60th minute of play. FCSB's defense didn't have a chance, in the 60th minute, when Francisc Moți scored to the left of an out of position Ferdinand Brăescu, making the score, 0-2. Vali Toma blasted a shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Mihnea Spelbu having to make a save. The crowd rose to their feet as Francisc Moți kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Ferdinand Brăescu. That made the score 0-3 in the 64 minute of play. In the 71st minute, Patrick Kluivert ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ferdinand Brăescu was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. In the 75thth minute of the game Francisc Moți who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FCSB's Ferdinand Brăescu was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience was convinced that Ciprian Burtea's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mihnea Spelbu was relentless in the 79th minute of the game. Traian Moldoveanu kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. 86 minutes into the match, SC Steaua Chitila's goal looked a bit too open when Vali Toma came free, but Mihnea Spelbu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 93rd minute Traian Moldoveanu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ferdinand Brăescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Traian Moldoveanu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 97 minutes, Virgil Zamfirescu mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FCSB and the SC Steaua Chitila players grew even worse after the yellow card. When the match was over SC Steaua Chitila could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than FCSB throughout the match.
