In the 2nd play minute Carlos Mei came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Juan Gaitan. 1-0. 6 minutes into the match, Carlos Mei had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Juan Gaitan. UM Timisoara's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Carlos Mei was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. Juan Gaitan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlos Mei, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 11th minute, Mihăiţă Stolniceanu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely's supporters rose to their feet, but Mihăiţă Stolniceanu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Juan Gaitan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 15 minutes into the match, Paul Mirea had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Lyle Coppack. The ball went over the crossbar instead. A throw-in in the 30th minute of the game was made by Mădălin Busuioc with Vlad Ghionaru as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. In the 31st minute Leo Weterio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lyle Coppack saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Carlos Mei came up free with the goalie in the 47th minute, the Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlos Mei couldn't finish the play. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Leo Weterio made a kick off. Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely's Lyle Coppack played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leo Weterio in the 53rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paul Ghimpu in the 64th minute of play forced Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely's goalkeeper Lyle Coppack to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 76th minute the ball was on its way in behind UM Timisoara's goalkeeper Juan Gaitan, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Carlos Mei's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Juan Gaitan read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 78th minute of play. Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely's Lars Flinck was substituted for Ediberto de Queirós. 82 minutes had been played when some careless play by UM Timisoara's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Ferdinand Zmărăndache was slow to take the kick. During this time Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely's players had a chance to rest. Patrik De Roost might have been able to make a better finish in the 90th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Juan Gaitan. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Patrik De Roost ran back to his position shaking his head. Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of UM Timisoara for a fine match.
