The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Mihai Cernei had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Charlotte Hornets Sport getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Dumitru Musteatã hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Cricova's zone, Mihai Cernei stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Stefan Grimalschi came out of the goal and Mihai Cernei tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 26 minutes into the match, Cricova's goal looked a bit too open when Mihai Cernei came free, but Stefan Grimalschi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Sandu Musteatã fell near the penalty area in the 31st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Charlotte Hornets Sport's protests and gave Sandu Musteatã a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Charlotte Hornets Sport getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Sandu Musteatã hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 41st minute, Cristian Bold managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cricova's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Bold was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eusebio Jurdan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Charlotte Hornets Sport booed when Cricova was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dorel Gusã didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eusebio Jurdan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mihail Darie in the 48th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Sandu Musteatã stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Cricova booed when Charlotte Hornets Sport was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dumitru Musteatã didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 68th minute Cristian Bold shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eusebio Jurdan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Stefan Grimalschi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mihai Cernei, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 72 minutes of play Charlotte Hornets Sport's Sandu Musteatã was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. An unexpected shot in the 80th minute by Mihail Darie got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Charlotte Hornets Sport's Eusebio Jurdan proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save Charlotte Hornets Sport from getting a goal against them. In the 85th minute, Nichifor Izvoreanu reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Eusebio Jurdan. The goal made the score 1-2. Mihail Darie had several of the Charlotte Hornets Sport's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 90 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-3 score and a disappointed Eusebio Jurdan as he didn't even see the shot coming. Vasile Cârlig kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. When the final whistle sounded Cricova left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Charlotte Hornets Sport.
