Blathma McGlynn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Flavinho Martins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 9 minutes into the match, Tilza's goal looked a bit too open when Svens Vesmanis came free, but Blathma McGlynn reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 15th minute of the match, Žanis Vestermans got a very nice opportunity to score, but Håkan Sjöberg was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Žanis Vestermans blasted a shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Håkan Sjöberg having to make a save. After some careless play in the FC Barca defense, Žanis Vestermans kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Håkan Sjöberg. The FC Barca fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Håkan Sjöberg should have stopped the shot. Blathma McGlynn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Justs Meirovičs in the 36th minute of play. FC Barca's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Mintauts Miemelis in the 37th minute. Blathma McGlynn showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Flavinho Martins, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. The supporters of FC Barca booed when Tilza was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Modris Zenevics didn't get a good kick on the ball.

The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to FC Barca getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Valdemārs Gremesis hit a great ball. Modris Zenevics took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 76th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Håkan Sjöberg. FC Barca's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line.
