Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Davis Koech started the match with the kick off. After 4 minutes of play, Newport AFC's Davis Koech made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Mickey Owino was left in no man's land by his defense there! Mickey Owino showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dennis Wanjohi in the 9th minute of the match. Walter Kiptum could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 14th minute of the match, but John Denno made a huge save. In the 16th minute Charles Maathai shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but John Denno saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 21st minute, Charles Maathai left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Newton on Ouse fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. In the 24th minute of the match, Charles Maathai tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but John Denno saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Dennis Wanjohi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mickey Owino having to interfere. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Newton on Ouse's goalkeeper Mickey Owino, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Davis Koech had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 33rd minute Davis Koech shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mickey Owino saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 33rd match minute, Newport AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Michael Oduor to maneuver through the defense. John Denno stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Charles Maathai's shot from short distance in the 39th minute. If Walter Kiptum had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. John Muttendago hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. Newport AFC's Dennis Wanjohi got a good chance for a goal in the 44th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dennis Wanjohi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

John Muttendago was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 52 minutes into the match. After 52 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Newton on Ouse! Walter Kiptum received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. John Denno tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Newport AFC getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Oburu Rutto hit a great ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Michael Oduor during the 67th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 69th minute, Walter Kiptum got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dennis Wanjohi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Mickey Owino guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. After a rather tough play, Newton on Ouse's Ibrahim Roy got a free kick in the 91st minute. The Newport AFC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Newport AFC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
