In the 17th match minute, Newton on Ouse was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by James Gichuki to maneuver through the defense. Evans Loroupe fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mickey Owino having to interfere. Francis Waroo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 20thth minute tested the skills of Mickey Owino when he managed to save the team from getting behind. A collision led to Rotherham getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Yusuf Wemba hit a great ball. After 28 played minutes Rotherham got a freekick which was hit by Wilfred Kiptanui. An unexpectedly hard shot by Charles Maathai in the 28th minute of play forced Rotherham's goalkeeper Musa Muhoho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Charles Maathai recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 34th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Newton on Ouse's Mickey Owino played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Evans Loroupe in the 41st minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Newton on Ouse's Walter Kiptum got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rotherham's Evans Loroupe got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Wilfred Kiptanui's late challenge caught a Newton on Ouse's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Wilfred Kiptanui helped the player get up and apologised. 92 minutes into the match, Newton on Ouse's Walter Kiptum sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Musa Muhoho narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Mickey Owino showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Evans Loroupe, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. Newton on Ouse's Mickey Owino played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Francis Waroo in the 95th minute of play. Newton on Ouse's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
