Clitheroe's Stephen Ouko started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some fancy dribbling in the 3rd minute, Wilson Konga managed to get in a good position for a shot. St Ives FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Wilson Konga was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. John Mudavadi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Charles Ondieki had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match had gone on for 7 minutes, Mohammed Odeke put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Mahmoud Kipsang. Charles Ondieki kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. Mahmoud Kipsang made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mohammed Odeke in the 14th minute of play. After 20 played minutes Clitheroe got a freekick which was hit by Thomas Syombua. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Stephen Ouko in the 23rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mahmoud Kipsang prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 23 minutes, Wilson Konga mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the St Ives FC and the Clitheroe players grew even worse after the yellow card. Wilson Konga hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. Wilson Konga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without John Mudavadi having to interfere. The supporters of St Ives FC booed when Clitheroe was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Charles Ondieki didn't get a good kick on the ball. 29 minutes into the game, Clitheroe's Mohammed Odeke nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Mahmoud Kipsang made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. The referee felt a red card was in order, 33 minutes into the game, when Thomas Syombua put in a rough tackle. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 33rd minute of the game. One of Clitheroe:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of St Ives FC:s goal. The referee gave St Ives FC a penalty, 36 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Sammy Waithaka, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Clitheroe's John Mudavadi. 1-2. Philip Kimely Kibaki fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mahmoud Kipsang having to interfere. Mahmoud Kipsang made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mohammed Odeke in the 41st minute of play. Ngũgĩ wa Nyamau sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mahmoud Kipsang dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. Charles Ondieki fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mahmoud Kipsang having to interfere. After a rather tough play, St Ives FC's Wilson Konga got a free kick in the 64th minute. St Ives FC's Mahmoud Kipsang proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 66th minute of the match, managed to save St Ives FC from getting a goal against them. John Mudavadi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Benjamin Kimutai Rop, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. When Ngũgĩ wa Nyamau came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the Clitheroe fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ngũgĩ wa Nyamau couldn't finish the play. Mahmoud Kipsang made an important save on a dangerous shot by Njeri Osoro in the 82nd minute. When Ngũgĩ wa Nyamau fell near the penalty area in the 85th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Clitheroe's protests and gave Ngũgĩ wa Nyamau a yellow card for diving instead. Ngũgĩ wa Nyamau hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. Mohammed Odeke charged in rather forcefully in the 88th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mohammed Odeke the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 89th minute, Mohammed Odeke hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. John Mudavadi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benjamin Kimutai Rop, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ben Atieno sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The Clitheroe supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Clitheroe would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
