After a defensive mix-up in Thémellon's zone, Álvaro Leão stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aggelos Antzas came out of the goal and Álvaro Leão tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. AEK Athens FC's Milan Paul played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dimitris Peropoulos in the 17th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as AEK Athens FC's Álvaro Leão slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Aggelos Antzas. That made the score 1-1 after 19 minutes of play. Alkaios Kallioras sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 30 played minutes AEK Athens FC got a freekick which was hit by Takis Papamichail. Milan Paul came out of the goal in the 32nd minute to try and stop a shot by Thémellon's Thomas Lazakis. But to his dismay, Thomas Lazakis quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Marios Karaliopoulos kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. When Alkaios Kallioras came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the AEK Athens FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alkaios Kallioras couldn't finish the play. Alkaios Kallioras could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 39th minute of the match, but Aggelos Antzas made a huge save. 41 minutes into the match, Alkaios Kallioras had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Aggelos Antzas. Aggelos Antzas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for AEK Athens FC. In the 47th minute, Alkaios Kallioras reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Aggelos Antzas. The goal made the score 3-2. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-2 at half-time.

After 53 minutes, Markos Chionidis mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Thémellon and the AEK Athens FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 52nd minute of the game. One of Thémellon:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of AEK Athens FC:s goal. The referee gave AEK Athens FC a penalty, 54 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Alkaios Kallioras, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Thémellon's Aggelos Antzas. 4-2. Alkaios Kallioras's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Aggelos Antzas read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 57th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alkaios Kallioras in the 58th minute of play forced Thémellon's goalkeeper Aggelos Antzas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 60th minute Mezie Feal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aggelos Antzas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 61st minute, Thomas Lazakis left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Thémellon fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-3. AEK Athens FC's Alkaios Kallioras got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 67th minute, Markos Chionidis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Alkaios Kallioras might have been able to make a better finish in the 78th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Aggelos Antzas. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alkaios Kallioras ran back to his position shaking his head. 78 minutes into the match, AEK Athens FC's Alkaios Kallioras sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Aggelos Antzas narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Milan Paul made a fantastic save in the 98th minute, when Thomas Lazakis sent off a good shot on target. When the match had gone on for 99 minutes, Alkaios Kallioras put it in 6-3 from a short distance just to the right of Aggelos Antzas. There was no doubt that AEK Athens FC were the better team. AEK Athens FC's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
