Theagenis Proedropoulos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Akis Veliou having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kleon Kechagias got free with Vladimiros Papanastasiou in the 14th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. ΑΟ ΘΗΒΑ's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Vassilis Viglakis 15 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-0. If Theagenis Proedropoulos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, ΑΟ ΘΗΒΑ's Apostolis Papaevaggelou got a free kick in the 21st minute. After having played for 23 minutes, Vassilis Viglakis managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Palionéllini's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vassilis Viglakis was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Giorgos Karantasios kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. Theagenis Proedropoulos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Akis Veliou having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Palionéllini's zone, Kleanthis Chatzigeorgiou stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. In the 36th minute, Theagenis Proedropoulos ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Akis Veliou was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. 39 minutes into the game, ΑΟ ΘΗΒΑ's Kleon Mersinias nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Akis Veliou made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Akis Veliou showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Theagenis Proedropoulos in the 42nd minute of the match. Vassilis Viglakis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Vladimiros Papanastasiou tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Vassilis Viglakis to make the kick off. When Kleanthis Chatzigeorgiou fell near the penalty area in the 74th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored ΑΟ ΘΗΒΑ's protests and gave Kleanthis Chatzigeorgiou a yellow card for diving instead. Vassilis Viglakis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Akis Veliou was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Christodoulos Megas. Miltos Tochouroglou hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Makis Katelis managed to get in a good position for a shot. ΑΟ ΘΗΒΑ's supporters rose to their feet, but Makis Katelis was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Akis Veliou breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 90 played minutes Kleon Mersinias rounded Palionéllini's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 2-6. Akis Veliou showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kleon Mersinias in the 94th minute of the match. The ΑΟ ΘΗΒΑ supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing ΑΟ ΘΗΒΑ would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
