The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Achilleas Pechlivanidis might have been able to make a better finish in the 3rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Apostolos Bonos. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Achilleas Pechlivanidis ran back to his position shaking his head. Dimitris Tavanopoulos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Akakios Kitrinidis in the 8th minute of play. 9 minutes into the match, Arbaouti's Akakios Kitrinidis sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dimitris Tavanopoulos narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 13 minutes, Marinos Patakos mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Arbaouti and the Barcelona players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 14th minute Achilleas Pechlivanidis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Apostolos Bonos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dimitris Tavanopoulos made a fantastic save in the 37th minute, when Vassilis Logothetis sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of Barcelona booed when Arbaouti was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vaggelis Andreadakis didn't get a good kick on the ball. Barcelona's Dimitris Tavanopoulos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Akakios Kitrinidis in the 45th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Arbaouti's Marinos Patakos got a free kick in the 46th minute. After the first half Barcelona were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Achilleas Pechlivanidis was the one to do the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Barcelona's goal looked a bit too open when Akakios Kitrinidis came free, but Dimitris Tavanopoulos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 57 minutes, Vassilis Logothetis mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Arbaouti and the Barcelona players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 57th minute, Vassilis Logothetis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 60 minutes into the match, Barcelona's Achilleas Pechlivanidis sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Apostolos Bonos narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Apostolos Bonos came out of the goal and Nikos Stavroulis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 80th minute, Stratos Christopoulos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Achilleas Pechlivanidis fell near the penalty area in the 82nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Barcelona's protests and gave Achilleas Pechlivanidis a yellow card for diving instead. In the 83rd minute Vassilis Logothetis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dimitris Tavanopoulos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Akakios Kitrinidis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Arbaouti supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Barcelona's performance. The match ended with a win for Barcelona.
