Achilleas Tzakos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Apostolis Fanaras, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. In the 21st minute, Stratos Atmatzidis left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The New Olympiacos FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. 26 minutes into the match, Veloϊlion's Panos Verginas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Achilleas Tzakos narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Juhani Eskelinen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pipis Stamatelatos in the 28th minute of the match. New Olympiacos FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Veloϊlion the free kick. A collision led to New Olympiacos FC getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Anthimos Georgiou hit a great ball. Achilleas Tzakos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sotiris Spiliotopoulos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

52 minutes in the game Tolis Souanis did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Stratos Atmatzidis. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sotiris Spiliotopoulos in the 56th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Achilleas Tzakos prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Apostolis Fanaras in the 57th minute of play forced New Olympiacos FC's goalkeeper Achilleas Tzakos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The New Olympiacos FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing New Olympiacos FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
