OLDHAM ATHLETIC's Aimilios Kostenoglou got a good chance for a goal in the 3rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Manos Psaltis's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kostas Georgakis read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 5th minute of play. The supporters of OLDHAM ATHLETIC booed when Melidhokhσri BC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Valerios Kefalos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Melidhokhσri BC were furious when Notis Symeonakos was red carded, 12 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The supporters of OLDHAM ATHLETIC booed when Melidhokhσri BC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Notis Symeonakos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Melidhokhσri BC's Theocharis Premetis got a good chance for a goal in the 21st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Manos Psaltis charged in rather forcefully in the 22nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Manos Psaltis the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 22nd match minute, OLDHAM ATHLETIC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Manos Psaltis to maneuver through the defense. Theocharis Premetis who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 23rdth minute tested the skills of Alekos Lithopoulos when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After 25 minutes of play, OLDHAM ATHLETIC's Dimos Zagorakis made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Kostas Georgakis was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 28th minute, Dimos Zagorakis ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Kostas Georgakis was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. Kostas Georgakis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dimos Zagorakis in the 31st minute of the match. Valerios Kefalos's late challenge caught a OLDHAM ATHLETIC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Valerios Kefalos helped the player get up and apologised. In the 31st minute, Valerios Kefalos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Charilaos Bogris came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the OLDHAM ATHLETIC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Charilaos Bogris couldn't finish the play. Valerios Kefalos hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Panos Koutras managed to get in a good position for a shot. OLDHAM ATHLETIC's supporters rose to their feet, but Panos Koutras was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kostas Georgakis breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 39 minutes into the match, Melidhokhσri BC's goal looked a bit too open when Dimos Zagorakis came free, but Kostas Georgakis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Dimos Zagorakis in the 41st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Kostas Georgakis prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 42nd minute Dimos Zagorakis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kostas Georgakis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Dimos Zagorakis to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute Giorgos Kafkalas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kostas Georgakis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 55th minute, Dimos Zagorakis left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The OLDHAM ATHLETIC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-4. Dimos Zagorakis could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 64th minute of the match, but Kostas Georgakis made a huge save. Isidoros Prinianakis charged in rather forcefully in the 67th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. In a very dangerous position, a player in Melidhokhσri BC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 67th minute. Penalty! After 75 minutes, Nikos Georgatos mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Melidhokhσri BC and the OLDHAM ATHLETIC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Dimosthenis Likouriotis kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. Kostas Georgakis made a fantastic save in the 87th minute, when Dimos Zagorakis sent off a good shot on target. In the 93rd minute, Dimos Zagorakis made a precise shot to the right of Kostas Georgakis. Melidhokhσri BC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-7. After having played for 97 minutes, Aimilios Kostenoglou managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. OLDHAM ATHLETIC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Aimilios Kostenoglou was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
